I am a Research Associate in the Laboratory for Foundations of Computer Science and the SynthSys Centre for Mammalian Synthetic Biology. I am also a Ph.D candidate at LFCS. My work falls in two main areas: mathematical and computational techniques for biology and medicine, and telecommunications networks. There is a little overlap, but not much.

My work in computational biology focuses on tissue development. I am particularly interested in measuring and understanding the mechanisms by which structure emerges in living creatures (histogenesis) with applications in understanding the spreading of cancerous tissue (histopathology). Compilers for computer simulation of genetic circuits is another area where I am active.

Since the mid 1990s, I have been working in telecommunications network, recently in rural, remote, infrastructure-poor and otherwise challenging environments. I am interested in communications infrastructure security which I consider to be an integral part of the network engineering discipline.

I am a musician, and occasionally perform on the Scottish smallpipes and border-pipes.

If you are a student interested in any of these topics looking for a supervisor for UG4, MInf and M.Sc(Res), please contact me.
